CustomCon 21 - Day 4

Day 4 of CustomCon 21 brings some more DC characters, a full line of Marvel Legends, and some imaginative vampire hunting.

JB Designs returns yet again with another Justice League Unlimited 3-pack.  Today’s offering includes two better-known characters, both of whom have appeared on the big screen: Two-Face and Poison Ivy.

John Bodin gives us an F.A.O. Schwartz exclusive Justice League Unlimited figure in the form of Captain Marvel.  Take note: the head and cape were sculpted from scratch.

Ken Dembowski (Mattman) may have finally run out of characters to customize.  He brings an all Marvel, 8-character Dragonman build-a-figure assortment to the table this time, and I’ve never heard of 6 of them!  … but I guess that doesn’t mean too terribly much.

Finally, Sasha offers up a 5 piece "Tall Tales" collection from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Each item in her collection required some genuine thought and reflects a knack for choosing good base figures.  The sculpted details look quite good, and she did a great job of turning Brett Favre into a vampire football player.

CustomCon 20 Recap

CustomCon 20CustomCon 20 is in the books.  Hosted once again by the boys and girls at The Fwoosh, CustomCon 20 featured lots of great work.  39 pages of new custom action figures brought a strong mix of classically inspired figures and down right goofy creativity.

One of the more creative lines is brought to you by Meatloaf of Darkness - Enemas of the Loaf - who finally accomplished the impossible task of putting squash, a donut, and some vengeful, vulgar vegemite into action figure form.  Not to be outdone, Apathy Ink stepped to the table with a very detailed (both the figure and the back story) entry called GombiZobPocalypse.

In a more classic vein, Marvel and DC are again very well represented.  Monkey Pops set the bar with 8 total waves of custom actions figures.  His Sword & Shield Productions created 5 waves of All-Star Squadron and 3 waves of X-Men Evolutions - featuring the original 5 X-Men in various team outfits.

My personal favorite is Raybot’s Ultimate X-Men line.  6 well detailed custom action figures join three existing ToyBiz creations to make up this 9 character team.

As usual, there’s just too much for me to sum up into one tiny blog entry.  Don’t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself, and sing the praises of the participants in The Fwoosh’s forums.

New Custom Action Figures - 6/19

I haven’t been updating as often as I should, but regular updates should start coming more often. This week’s new custom action figures is a short and sweet entry.

For those who aren’t already aware, over at The Fwoosh, they run a feature called “New Custom Tuesday”. It usually runs every Tuesday, but has lately been on a bi-weekly publishing schedule. This week, Weapon XII’s Atom Smasher (made from a Marvel Icons Wolverine) is the featured figure.

8 other figures made their debuts this past week, as well. Check them all out at The Fwoosh.

CustomCon XIX Completed

CustomCon XIX

Over at the Raving Toy Maniac, CustomCon XIX was recently completed. The event was held Monday, April 7, 2008 through Friday, April 11, 2008 and, incredibly, featured over 80 pages full of custom action figures, and thanks to the success of Marvel Legends, the word ‘Legends’ appears in approximately 150% of the waves in this CustomCon. (Oddly, the success of DC Direct has not led to the word ‘Direct’ being included everywhere.)

Various incarnations of the Justice League dominated DC Comics’ contribution. Marvel was represented well across the board with entries for the Avengers, X-Men, a few lines dedicated to villains, a couple of Age of Apocalypse waves, and even a wave that contained 5(!) Deadpool figures.

It would be impossible to effectively capture the entire event in a blog like this, so I suggest you have a look for yourself. Click here to check out everything CustomCon XIX has to offer.
